Statement
"The
Surreal Landscape”
I’m drawn to
scenes that have the power to mesmerize and take me hostage in an almost
trance-like state for a period of time.
Frequently, these moments possess a deja-vu
or dreamscape quality that transports me to a state of isolation and loneliness.
I’m interested in expressing a separate reality that defies literal
implications.
I have long admired the work of the surrealists, in particular the work of
Giorgio de Chirico, whose art depicts the possible added dimensions of our
world. His strong geometric
structure also seems to have the power to impart complex emotions.
I also sense in his work an accompanying feeling of loneliness and
incipient fear, which may have a strong influence on my own art work.
In this body of work, with photography as my chosen medium, I strive to depict
another dimension to the world we live in.
